Community Supported Gaming - It's Happening!
In brief: For $75 including shipping, you or whoever you're gifting will get six (or more) new games through the year, starting with two up front for the holidays. How cool is this? In less brief: New and innovative games are hard to sell. Generally speaking, people don't buy a game unless they've already played it, or unless someone has already dropped a few hundred thousand dollars on marketing it. That's a problem for small game designers. But it has also means that... New and innovative games are hard to buy. Since it isn't worthwhile for small designers to be at all the cons, or work with all the retailers, or even produce large runs of their games, the most innovative games are simply hard to come by. Gamers are surrounded by a sea of the familiar, mainly sold by the biggest firms. We can do better. The Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model works using a system of annual pre-buys. That's what we're doing here. Community Supported Gaming. For $75, you'll get several games (six for sure, maybe seven or more) that will be shipped throughout 2015. They'll all be new, and they'll all be awesome. Mad Sheep Games is bottom-lining this project, but we hope to collaborate with several other designers as well. If you know someone who just desperately wants Grand Theft Auto V for Christmas, this isn't it. But if you know someone who loves board games, this is the perfect gift for them, and it's a win-win arrangement. Because it's a pre-buy, the designers are free to create the best games we can imagine, without worrying about whether or not they'll sell at a con. And the recipients get a front-row seat for a whole year of new games. Details: The games are aimed at older players (10-or-so-and-up) in terms of their complexity. Orders should be placed with Ethan Mitchell (trelevenfarm@gmail.com) by December 9th in order to receive the first shipment by December 22nd. (Later orders are fine, but we can't promise to ship them by that date.) In 2015, shipping dates are in early February, April, June, August, and October. Payment can be made via Paypal (trelevenfarm@gmail.com) or to Ethan Mitchell at 38 Mitchell Drive, Vergennes VT, 05491. We cannot currently take credit cards. Please specify the addresses of the recipient(s) in your order, and any other shipping or labeling instructions. |
